You're Going to Want to Give Up

It’s so easy for us to sit and have a pity party when hard times come our way especially when we are doing right. We expect blessings for obedience and when we get trials it seems as if we have the right to look up and say, “God, you are supposed to be good! You are supposed to bless me.” God’s goodness, however, is not limited to our present circumstances.

Remember that ALL things {not just good things} work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28

Don’t let a bad attitude, a sin, or circumstances of this life allow you to forget the goodness of God. He will always come through. He will always work hard things out for the glory of God in your life. Let the Holy Spirit shine a light on things that will hinder our full service for the kingdom. Whatever you do, even when you so desperately want to, do not quit. God has a lesson and a blessing right around the corner.

Think of Nehemiah. He was called according to God’s purpose. He was called by God to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem. God allowed him to leave Persia, where he had a servant to the king, travel safely to Jerusalem with the kings permission and supplies to rebuild the wall! That must have been so reassuring that God was on his side. However, after he had rallied the people together and they were in the middle of working, the outsiders started to mock him. They were relentless. They told him that he couldn’t do it. He was smart enough. He wasn’t strong enough. They even threatened to attack the city while they were building. Nehemiah could have doubted God’s goodness at that time. He could have thought, “God, you told me that you would be with me! I’m doing this in obedience and for Your name, God. You told me you would bless me! You called me here to leave me?”

But he didn’t do that. He prayed, trusting that God would do just as he said He would. He would be with Nehemiah. He would help him to finish the work that he started…. Even if hard times came crashing in. He could have quit, but he didn’t. He rebuilt the walls of Jerusalem and God’s name was lifted up and revered in that city …. And all the surrounding cities knew the strength of the true God.

The truth is God never said that it would be easy, but I have never heard of anyone who regretted not giving up on God. When we show ourselves faithful to Him, He shows Himself doubly faithful to us.

My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations;Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing. James 1:2-4

God is preparing you for something in the midst of a trial. He wants you to reach your full potential, and he does that through the testing of your faith. Just as exercise tears down muscle to build it back up stronger, God uses our hard life situations to tear down our pride, and self sufficiency, and to build our faith in HIM. When we are patient and trust His hand even when we can not see, we can be made little by little into what he has truly created us to be. We can always trust Him to bring us through every trial and every testing that comes our way, and believe me, they will come.

What’s the trial that you’re going through? Is it bigger than your calling? Is it bigger than your God? Of course it isn’t. He sees and knows everything. Be encouraged! Every promise of God is true, and even when we don’t understand, hard times will prove God faithful if you simply trust him. The fact is at times you are going to want to give up… Don’t.

  1. Thank you for letting the holy spirit use you. I’ve been asking God where he is and if I’ve been forsaken. After reading this I’ve realized Gods timing isn’t our timing. Also, you’ve opened my eyes to the fact I just need to keep hope and faith. I maybe jobless, alone, and uneasy but my God will not forsake me no matter how it’s looking for me. I will pray for your ministry because you’re posts have touched the bruises on my heart. Thank you for healing words Lauren

  3. Thank you for reassuring me! It is a very difficult time right now. Things are happening in my life, all at once, that I thought would NEVER happen to me. I’m trying to be patient, keep my eyes on my God
And keep going. Waiting for my break through. I know that it HAS to be RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER! I ll thank him and praise him until then and afterwards!!

  4. Lauren, you are amazing and I am so excites to see where God is going to lead you. This blog was meant for me today and I’m glad you took time to write it. I have been sick and jobless for around 6 months now. I feel so alone and out of tune with God sometimes. But I keep praying. I keep trusting. Keep on, keeping on! This is just a reminder from God telling me, “I see you. I hear you. I’m working it all out for your good. Trust in me and I will supply all your needs. Be still and know I am God.”

  5. As a fairly new christian, it sometimes gets difficult to stay on track. More than ever I know that I am in the right place with God and have a strong relationship with him that grows every single day. I never am tempted to give up my faith however, sometimes I get tempted to jump on the bandwagon of being angry, bitter, and mean. So many people live without hope, or any type of spark in their life. God fulfills me daily with this thirst for doing good. Sometimes other people’s hate spills over and I find myself on the other end of the table conversing with them. I would just like to say for anyone else out there that is struggling to be pure, modest, and live life with happiness in God to be strong. Don’t let the sin of the world consume you. Don’t let others rub off on you. Be careful who you surround yourself with and always know that your worth is in His hands. Sometimes other people hate you because of what you represent and WHO you represent, and not you personally. Let it all go.
