2013… a new thing

The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way. Psalm 37:23

Ah, the new year. A time to start fresh. A time to look forward, set goals, dream dreams. A time to look back, and see how far we have come.

Wow. 2012.

Stop and think about it. I don’t know about yours, but my life was totally different this time last year. C.S. Lewis wrote, “Isn’t it funny how day by day nothing changes but when you look back everything is different….”

My new year’s resolution last year was “To be an inspiration.” Nothing more and nothing less. I didn’t even really know what it meant, but I wanted to make a difference. I wanted to be brave. I didn’t know even know I would be writing this blog.

I couldn’t have imagined that this is where I would be, and I want 2013 to be no different. When I get to the end, I want to look back, and say, “God, that was pretty cool.” See, we can set new goals, and dream new dreams; we can plan all we want, and we should, but to lay our plans at His feet, and say, “Please, Lord, take my life and make it yours. I want to go where you want me to be this year…” there is freedom in those words. There is freedom in surrender.

A man’s heart deviseth his way: but the LORD directeth his steps. Proverbs 16:9

It is a hard thing to place your life in God’s hands daily. It is hard not to worry about what the future may hold for us. But, when you think about it, we have entrusted God with our eternal souls… why could we not trust Him with our finite lives here on earth?

He will never leave us, never forget about us, never give up on us. If we have given our lives to Him, He will always be there working things out for our good and His glory.

And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28

The Bible is true. Do we believe it? If we do, if we truly believe what the Bible says, then we WILL live it. We may not live what we profess, but we will live what we truly believe. And my God is true and right and trustworthy every time.

Let’s make 2013 the best year of our lives. Not because we will lose 10 pounds or find the man of our dreams [ but here’s hoping we do ;] but because we lay our everything into the hands of God. Let’s ask Him to direct our steps, give us His heart, and steady our hands.

As for God, his way is perfect: the word of the Lord is tried: he is a buckler to all those that trust in him. For who is God save the Lord? or who is a rock save our God? It is God that girdeth me with strength, and maketh my way perfect. Psalm 18:30-32

Maybe we need to be bolder in our stand for God, maybe you need to stop worrying and trust God with your life, maybe you need to surrender your heart completely to him, maybe you need to start reaching out to those around you more– whatever it is. Let’s make it happen.

2012 was not so great for you? Let it go. Trust God with 2013. Give it to Him. Give it all.

Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert. Isaiah 43:18-19

Let’s make 2013 new. Let’s let God make 2013 AWESOME.

But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. 1 Corinthians 2:9

  1. Lauren, thank you for this post today! I, too, am in a completely different place today than I was a year ago. Since this time last year, God has rescued me from the selfish life I was living (although I’ve always been a “Christian”), pulled me from a relationship I shouldn’t have been in, and set me free to be His and give Him the pen of my story. Your post today has helped me reflect on all that God has done for me!
